Todd D. Severin, MD Bios
Sanford L. Severin, MD, FICS, Medical Director of East Bay Eye Centers Medical Corporation, received his pre-medical training and Bachelors of Science degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Washington University in Oxford, Ohio. He graduated Cum Laude from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He served his internship at the University of Michigan Medical Center and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. As a postgraduate fellow, Dr. Severin furthered his studies with the famous corneal surgeon, Max Fine, MD. He then took a teaching position on the staff of the Baskin-Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida. He has been on the teaching staff of the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco.
Some of his early contributions were made in the field of macular research on test pilots while he served with the U.S. Air Force. His work has been published in many medical journals and text books used throughout the world.
He entered private practice in 1968 in the East Bay. In his professional life, he is dedicated to the advancement of new technologies and education in the field of ophthalmology, with a special focus on cataract and refractive surgery. From 1985 to 2003, Dr. Severin ran the East Bay Eye Centers Ambulatory Surgical Facility, one of the first Federally certified surgery centers, where outpatient surgery was performed utilizing state-of-the-art technology. He is an internationally recognized authority in the subject of anterior segment surgery and intra-ocular lens implantation. He lectures extensively and has traveled the world as a guest speaker to professional and civic organizations. He is one of only two American ophthalmologists chosen to present the first lens implantation course in Rome, Italy.
Dr. Severin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and a member of the F.C. Cordes Society. Author of 2 books and creator of a TriEnergetics 6-Week Program to gain better health, nutrition, with exercise and mindfulness.
Todd D. Severin, M.D., is an internationally renowned ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist. Todd graduated pre-med with honors from Pomona College in Los Angeles where he also captained the collegiate rugby team. He then completed his medical training at the University of California, San Diego where he was awarded the Lange Medical Publications Award for outstanding research. After finishing a medical internship at a Stanford University affiliate hospital, he returned to UCSD for his residency in Ophthalmology, serving as Chief Resident of the Department of Ophthalmology in 1992-1993, and Assistant Surgical Director of the Flying Samaritans Eye Care Project in Tecate, Mexico.
Dr. Severin continued his post-residency training and specialization at Baylor Medical College in Houston, Texas, where he completed a post-doctorate Clinical Fellowship in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Dr. Severin then completed a mini-fellowship in LASIK refractive surgery at the Buckely Vision Institute in Colorado Springs.
Dr. Severin has authored more than 40 medical articles, abstracts and text book chapters and has been a highly sought after lecturer at scientific meetings, having given nearly 500 lectures across the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Berkeley where he lectures extensively on the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, and he also serves as the Medical Director of the Pacific Laser Eye Center and the University of California, Berkeley Refractive Surgery Center. Dr. Severin continues to be active in research, having participated in numerous FDA phase III and IV clinical trials, and serves as a member of the Scientific Editorial Board for the Journal of Ophthalmology and the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Severin is a past-president of the East Bay Ophthalmological Society. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Severin is a Fellow of the American Glaucoma Society and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, as well as a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
His hobbies include skiing, writing and collecting vintage era comic books.
