Scientists have already used 3D bioprinting to to build new cartilage and skin for laboratory rats. In a few years people with bad knees might go to the hospital and have a new joint printed directly into their bodies. Hollow tubes such as arteries or urethras will come next followed by hollow organs. Down the road there will be a day when someone needing a new heart or kidney to transplant can get one with a 3D bioprint of the organ.
Unbelievable? Not really. Hold on to your hat because that day may be here sooner than you think.
