Memory Loss And Television

April 30, 2019

How much TV do you watch a day? A week? Is there a problem if you frequently watch TV? There are some who claim that watching TV more than 3 and a half hours a day exacerbates memory loss.

This claim is based on a British study on 3,662 adults ages 50 and over. Those who sat in front of the tube for more than 3 and a half hours experienced an average of 8 to 10% decrease in verbal memory compared to 4 to 5% decline in those who watched less.

What is the reason for these results.? We do not believe that watching TV is dangerous by itself. However if you are glued to the TV set most likely you are spending less time on activities that help preserve mental function such as exercise, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Remember to use it or you could lose it.
